S.T.A.R. Program
Student Technology Assistance & Refurbishment
South Lakes FBLA students refurbish donated laptops and prepare them for organizations that help families gain access to technology.
Working in partnership with the Virginia STAR Program, FBLA students learn practical computer repair skills while helping expand access to technology in the community.

Partnership with the Virginia STAR Program
The South Lakes FBLA S.T.A.R. Program operates in collaboration with the Virginia STAR Program, a statewide initiative that allows students to refurbish surplus technology while gaining IT repair skills.
Through this connection, students follow the same mission:
• reduce electronic waste
• develop technology repair skills
• expand access to computers for people who need them
Programs like Virginia STAR demonstrate how student-led technology initiatives can create both educational opportunities and meaningful community impact.

Skills Students Learn
This project gives students hands-on experience in both technology and leadership.
Students develop skills in:
• basic computer hardware troubleshooting
• installing operating systems
• diagnosing performance issues
• project organization and inventory management
• teamwork and leadership
• communication with community partners
These experiences introduce students to real technology career pathways while building leadership skills.
Community Impact
Access to a reliable computer can make a significant difference for families and individuals.
Refurbished laptops can support:

• online education
• tutoring programs
• workforce training
• student learning
By restoring and donating technology, FBLA students help expand opportunities throughout the community.
